Post-traumatic & post-surgical recovery
Recovery after fracture, surgery and orthopaedic intervention

Naftalan is a leading rehabilitation destination for patients recovering from fractures, arthroscopies, joint prostheses and chronic post-traumatic syndromes.
Local naphthalan applications soften scar tissue, accelerate bone consolidation, restore muscle tone and prevent post-surgical contractures. The naphthenic hydrocarbons stimulate microcirculation around the operated joint and reduce oedema. Treatment integrates partial baths for hand or foot, paraffin–naphthalan compresses, individual kinesiotherapy, mechanotherapy, drainage massage, low-intensity laser on scars and pelvic or vascular magnetotherapy. Most patients regain near-full functional capacity by the end of a 10–14 day cure.

About post-trauma & recovery treatment at Naftalan
When can I start a Naftalan rehabilitation cure after surgery?+
Typically 6–8 weeks after orthopaedic surgery or fracture, once wounds have healed and the surgeon has cleared mobilisation. Some protocols allow earlier start with adapted exercises.
Does Naftalan help after joint replacement?+
Yes — it accelerates soft-tissue recovery, reduces post-operative oedema and restores range of motion. It is widely used after knee and hip prosthesis surgery.
Can Naftalan soften old surgical scars?+
Yes. Local naphthalan applications and low-intensity laser are routinely used to soften scar tissue, reduce adhesions and improve mobility of surrounding structures.
Is the cure adapted for elderly patients?+
Yes. Programmes are individually titrated based on cardiovascular status, mobility and tolerance. Partial baths and local applications are used when general baths would be too demanding.
What functional level can I expect to recover?+
Most patients regain near-full functional capacity by the end of a 10–14 day cure, with continued improvement in the weeks that follow through home exercises.
